|This is a free tryout class where the student experiences a typical fencing class and becomes familiar with the sport of fencing and the clubs atmosphere. While the student is participating in class, the coach uses this opportunity to analyze the student’s coordination, analytical skills, and athletic ability based on which the coach will recommend the student to Program 2, or directly to Program 3/4. After participating in the tryout class, the student can decide if fencing is a sport they are interested in pursuing or not. Workout attire with long sweat pants, athletic shoes, and a refillable water bottle are required.||All equipment provided by IFA.|
|Program One (Novice) This program is for ages 12 and younger.||2 x 1.5 hours

|This novice program is designed for students who have no prior fencing experience. Students are introduced to the sport of fencingвЂ”topics covered include the history of fencing, etiquette, basic footwork, blade work techniques, and the rules of the sport. A typical class structure will include warm up activities, developmental games, footwork, and drills with a partner. Upon completion, students have an understanding of what fencing is all about and should be able to perform basic movements and actions such as: salute, on guard, advance, retreat, lunge, and basic attacking and defensive techniques and actions. Workout attire with long sweat pants, athletic shoes, and a refillable water bottle are required.||All equipment provided by IFA.|
